Sorry for the delay. I've had more important issues than the upkeep of my brog going on.

I finished a new painting today. Makes me happy. That's why I look gay in this picture.
I promise. And that is paint on my face, too. NOT a huge cold sore.

One A Daze

So, as an exercise in narcissistic copy-catism, I am hereby starting a project of epic-ly boring proportions which i saw someone else do somewhere else online.
Every day I will be taking a picture of myself and posting in here on my brog. Hopefully, if i do not die of boredom, in a year or more i will have a nice set of documentation on my steady path towards The Ed*.



*originally a typo for "The End", I reverted to the error when i realized it helped take the morbid edge away from the post. plus i like the silly humor of it.

new website in the pipes

so, i'm thinking about taking this image (a more tightly drawn one) and flash animating it to make it the new ryanstiner.com. the idea would be that each "poster" (which will more than likely end up being collage and not hand-drawn) will be highlighted upon mouseover and be the links for the separate galleries and subsequent pages. lemme know what you think in the comments section.

Mulligan

so it looks as though i'll be reworking those three pages for Hey, Mister that you see below.
the head honcho at Top Shelf felt that i should spend more time working on the subtleties of comic book illustration and that it would be in the best interest of the overall product for me to keep on practicing until i feel that i've really hit my stride. that way, said stride won't be absent from the first chunk of the book.
i'm a little relieved, as i felt that i pushed these first pages out like a big bm instead of letting them ease out like a little bm.

Too Many Lines?

It's Mister and Jesus at the bar.
Not specific to the story ... just flexing my environment muscles a bit.
Did I use too much hatching?
Took me about an hour, hour and a half.

i like the two on the right. Mary needs to have a really bulky, almost bullish appearance and attitude. The leftmost sketch i feel is too realistic.

some pics of young tim ... not a hug fan of these ... i think tim, of all of the characters, needs to retain his true cartoon form (where i feel more inclined to add some proper anatomy to the other characters) ... Anyway, it's a work in progress.

the detroit red wings are retiring Steve Yzerman's #19 jersey tonight.
id' be lying if i said that i wasn't a wee bit teary eyed as this guy has been a huge figure in detroit hockey for the past 20-odd years.
he's played through pain that most people wouldn't be able to live through and led detroit's resurgence in the NHL by way of multiple Stanley Cups.

i need a hero

pete had mentioned that both he and chris (playa at top shelf productions) enjoyed the painting i did awhile ago of this little guy ... so that inspired me to give him another go.
it's kind of fun how somebody else's interest can get you excited about something old.

Anyway ... I'll post what i come up with.
